                        Nehru, who together with Mahatma Gandhi was the founder of the independent Republic of India, had a rational and skeptical mind. The influence that astrology has on Indian society is much greater than in the West. It concerns the smallest details of everyday life - from the birth of a person to his death. For advice, they go to astrologers even more often than to doctors. Any plans and projects are necessarily coordinated with the astrologer, whether it is building a house or traveling, moving or a financial transaction, political or military decisions. Note, by the way, that Indian astrologers predicted with great accuracy the time of the start of two world wars, as well as the defeat of Hitler and the collapse of the Third Reich. Very little is known about the origin of this astrological tradition. In the Rigveda, in the earliest of the ancient Indian sacred texts, the starry sky was divided into 27 sections, nakshatras, to which the 28th was later added. The expedition of Alexander the Great and the invasion of Greek culture brought with them a system of twelve signs of the Zodiac, which gave rise to a much more perfect and at the same time more complex technique of astrological research. The symbolism of the twelve signs has changed somewhat: Aries or Goat, Taurus, Pair, Crab, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio or Bee, Bow, Sea Monster or Antelope, Bowler Hat, Pisces.




                        Indian astrology entered its heyday in the fourth century AD under the Gupta dynasty; since then, it has penetrated all walks of life and continues to expand its influence to this day. In Indian civilization, in contrast to European civilization, a sharp line has never been drawn between science, religion and philosophy. Therefore, astrology is basically closely connected with the mystical concepts of Hinduism, in particular with karma and reincarnation (transmigration of souls). Hindus believe that there are both individual and collective karma, and astrology, of course, has its scope of application both in the study of the fate of individuals, and political events, the history of peoples.

                    The most important role is played by the astrological horoscope in the wedding ceremony. Before starting any negotiations regarding marriage, the parents of the bride and groom present their horoscopes to each other. If their significant discrepancy is found, the wedding will not take place. Another interesting detail: in special newspapers of marriage announcements, data from the client's astrological chart are always indicated at least in general terms. After the marriage is concluded, an astrologer is consulted to determine the most favorable time for conceiving children: for example, it is considered that the full moon and the new moon are completely unacceptable for this. One of the main differences between Hindu astrology and Western astrology is that the Hindus base their calculations on the sidereal zodiac, and not on the earth. The position of the planets relative to the constellations is taken into account, which gives a deviation of 230. These very ancient horoscopes, written on palm leaves, contain 3600 types of fate for each day, that is, 150 per hour.
